On 13 July 2001, the 2008 Summer Olympics was awarded to the city of Beijing. Determined to showcase to the world a ‘New Beijing’ and host a much-needed ‘Green Olympic Games’, the Chinese government has given unprecedented and probably unparalleled support to the campaign. Embracing the most advanced and latest technologies, the Chinese are keen to show respect for the environment and ensure that the event is accessible to all.
